Threads introduces a new feature called Ghost Post on Monday (10/27). This feature automatically archives posts created after 24 hours, setting Threads apart from X, where deleting old content on X usually requires using third-party services.
To create a Ghost Post on the Threads app, simply choose the icon with a ghostly image when creating a post. Once published, to distinguish Ghost Posts from regular posts, they will appear in other people’s timelines in the form of conversation bubbles. Those who view the post can reply, but the responses will not appear in the timeline.
Instead, responses to Ghost Posts will go directly to Direct Messages. In addition to responses not showing up in the timeline, the number of likes and replies will not be displayed directly, but will be replaced with a smiley icon. However, the creator of the Ghost Post can still see the number of likes and replies to their posts.
After 24 hours, Ghost Posts will disappear from other people’s timelines. Despite disappearing from others’ timelines, the posts will actually be archived and can still be accessed later. According to Meta, this feature was created so that more people can make posts without worrying about the long-term effects because the posts will disappear after 24 hours.
This is not the first time a social media platform has tried a similar feature. In 2020, before becoming X, Twitter introduced a similar feature called Fleets, with a concept similar to Instagram Stories. Unfortunately, this feature did not last long due to lack of use.
For frequent Threads users, have you tried this feature yet?
